This Educational Live Virtual Tour takes participants to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, in real time, exploring how history, culture, and sustainability come together in one of Europe’s greenest cities. Led live from the city, this interactive program introduces Ljubljana as a crossroads of Germanic, Romanic, and Slavic cultures, shaping its architecture, traditions, and daily life.

Participants will learn why over 60% of Ljubljana is covered by green spaces and how the city earned the title of European Green Capital. The tour highlights the role of urban planning, parks, rivers, and green corridors in supporting both human well-being and biodiversity.

Through live observation, the program explores urban wildlife found within the city, including river otters, herons, kingfishers, foxes, hedgehogs, and many bird species. Cultural symbols such as the linden tree (lipa), Slovenia’s national tree, and the carnation (nagelj), the national flower, are used to explain themes of community, identity, and tradition.

The tour also covers Slovenia’s internationally recognized beekeeping heritage, explaining why May 20th is celebrated as World Bee Day in honor of Slovenian pioneer Anton Janša. Participants will learn the difference between urban and city beekeeping and how beehives, rooftop gardens, and green infrastructure support pollinators in a modern capital.

This Live Virtual Tour encourages questions and discussion throughout, making it well-suited for libraries, lifelong learning programs, and environmentally focused educational events, and the participants will feel as if they were there physically.
